Amateurs' Corner
Are you an amateur flute player? What does that mean, anyway? Why don’t you help us define what an amateur player is? We hope you will find interesting articles here, discussing the joys (and perhaps some of the pains!) of music making. We plan to list anything that might be of interest to amateur players, like events and performance opportunities or classes/workshops. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to contribute an article, or have some information to share with our members. Michael Cave, Amateur Corner Editor

About Michael Cave
Michael Cave was born in Belfast, and now works as a cardiologist in Durham. He began playing the flute at the age of 9, and in his late teens was principal flute in the Irish Youth Orchestra. He then stopped playing for about 20 years to concentrate on studies, career and family life. Around the age of 40 he rediscovered his passion for the flute, and now plays in a number of amateur and semi-professional orchestras. An enthusiastic member of the BFS, he was the winner of the first BFS Geoffrey Gilbert Adult Amateur competition in 2007. He is a strong advocate of amateur music, and believes in music for pleasure, and music for all.
