William Bennett International Flute Summer School

This is full 9 days summer school for up to 60 people in lovely school buildings in country near Reading. Friendly atmosphere with many repeated visits and attract students from all over the world. Last year was from 27 countries. Good for entrances exam, competitions, teachers and professional players. Very high standard, yet not competitive.  Level above grade 8.

Fantastic value for money. Early morning body mapping and technique classes followed by master classes plus individual and group lessons, student and professional concerts.

US National Flute Association Convention, Anaheim, California

The 38th Annual NFA convention will be held from Aug. 12 - 15, 2010 in Anaheim California.  Highlights include performances by some of the world's greatest flutists, including Lifetime Achievement Award Recipients Leone Buyse and Fenwick Smith, a wide variety of jazz, latin, classical, baroque and world music concerts and workshops, including jazz cabaret nights, a flute beat boxing masterclass, chamber music events, classes on low flutes and piccolo, a special Kids Kamp for young flutists, competitions, flute choirs, career and artistic development classes, performance health workshops, as well as hundreds of exhibits by flute manufacturers, music and accessory suppliers, recording companies and others. Skidmore Flute Institute

August 15-21, 2010 at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, USA

Director Jan Vinci, special guests Jeffrey Khaner and Mark Vinci (jazz improvisation), and additional Flute Institute faculty.

Open to flutists of intermediate to professional levels, the program welcomes high school, college, and adult students. This concentrated program offers master classes, ensemble rehearsals, private lessons, and recitals.

The day begins with a warm-up session covering the fundamentals of playing and yoga exercises designed for flutists. Interactive sessions include Baroque Flute, Mock Auditions, and Creating a Life in Music. Morning master classes focus on particular styles: classical, baroque, French, contemporary (including avant-garde), and solo flute repertoire. Afternoon master classes cover open repertoire. Performance opportunities for flutists include master classes, two solo recitals, and a closing ensemble concert. Participants will receive flute lessons. A performance of the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center and a trip to the historic Saratoga Race Course round out the experience. Students may register for master classes and choose their performance repertoire. Master class participation, ensemble placement, and repertoire will be confirmed by the director.

"In Search of Inspiration" with Wissam Boustany

FLUTES AT THE BARNS SRI LANKA 2010 with Zoe Booth – Desire Musical Resort, Beruwela, Sri Lanka, 25th October - 4th November

‘Flutes at the Barns’ Sri Lanka 2010 provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take part in a flute course in an exotic location in the Indian Ocean; the course includes tours of Sri Lanka’s most famous sights, sounds and experiences - such as visits to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress and the Elephant Orphanage at Pinawela - as well as musical activities.  The course is open to adult players of any experience and ability (partners also welcome) hoping to combine a discovery tour of Sri Lanka with full musical participation and a sharing of musical experiences and ideas.  On-site accommodation is comfortable and luxurious; all participants are accommodated individually.

The busy programme of musical activities takes place between sightseeing trips and tours and includes an individual lesson with Zoe Booth for each participant, flute choir sessions, trio and quartet coaching, musical and discussion workshops and warm-up sessions featuring hints and tips on all aspects of how to improve your playing!  There are also opportunities for individuals to take part in a masterclass, play piccolo, alto or bass flutes and/or perform in one of the informal concerts.  Nervous players can be assured that there is no pressure to perform and they will find the course entirely non-challenging and supportive!

All course activities, sightseeing tours, accommodation and the wonderful meals and refreshments are included in the course fee (please visit website for more details).  International participants welcome, as ever!

Flute School London

The Flute School London is an exciting new 5 day holiday Flute Course for players of all standards. Guest tutors include Wissam Boustany, Mike Mower, Camilla Hoitenga, Simon Gilliver.

The course is organised and run by flautists Janna Hüneke and Kate Grace.

The course will include:

• Masterclasses

• Individual lessons

• Mock Audition Classes

• Warm-up/technical sessions

• Improvisation Workshop.

• Chamber groups for all

• ‘Delcrose’workshop and talks on performance nerves • Top Wind music shop stand; try flutes, buy music etc • Specialist repair person on site to do minor repairs.

It is non-residential, which keeps the costs down and will be held at The Hall School, 23 Crossfield Road, London NW3 4NU.

There will be parallel classes for different standards (all standards/ages are welcome):

  • young learners up to age 13 years

  • ages 14 – adult

  • students below grade 4

  • students of grade 5 and over.

We feel that all standards of flute-player can benefit from the masterclasses and talks, but some younger children will benefit more from taking classes tailored to their age-group and standard. All standards & ages will be catered for!
